Lorient

The port of registry for the Race for Water Foundation’s ambassador vessel, Lorient, a city located in southern Brittany, witnessed the latter cast off on her five-year odyssey on 9 April 2017.

“This latest expedition demonstrates that there are concrete solutions for preserving the oceans. On the one hand, we’re showing that if we take action on land, it’s possible to curb the plastic pollution of the oceans, notably by incorporating a technology capable of transforming plastic waste into a marketable energy resource. In this way, we are creating a value chain for illicit plastic waste with a sustainable environmental, economic and social impact. On the other hand, we’re accelerating energy transition by demonstrating that a vessel powered by solar-hydrogen-kite energies is capable of making a 5-year expedition around the world.”

Marco Simeoni, President of the Race for Water Foundation.
