School intervention in Switzerland

For the third consecutive year, the Race for Water Foundation has been able to raise awareness among more than a hundred students from the Bas-Lac School Center in Switzerland about the multiple and not always visible impacts of plastic pollution.

Through the screening of the documentary “Plastic: The Collective Suicide?” directed by Peter Charaf in collaboration with Race for Water, the students were able to understand the issues, responsibilities, and possible solutions to stop this environmental, but also health, social, and economic catastrophe. The discussions that followed the screening were rich, and we hope they will bear fruit in concrete actions to reduce our society’s addiction to this material, which is so harmful to our health and our oceans.

On June 25, 2024, the “Race for Water” Foundation confirmed its interest in educating and informing the young generation of Neuchâtel. Ms. C. Rollin presented to our 110 11H students the work done by the Foundation to collect data and present an overview of plastic pollution worldwide. A clear link between the purchase of plastics in Europe and the growth of plastic islands in the world’s oceans was thus highlighted. Students are always surprised and shocked by the situation in certain disadvantaged parts of the planet that live amid plastic waste (some of which comes from Switzerland) because they have no other choice. Our school center wishes to continue this type of conference because we believe that educating future generations is fundamental to changing mindsets. Many thanks to Race for Water and see you soon!
