On our way to the Fiji Islands!

After 8 days to the Tonga, Race for Water has now set a course for Nadi, a town in the Fiji Islands, lying to the north-west of the main island of Viti Levu.

Jean-Marc Normant, captain: “We set sail at 10:30am this morning, (Friday evening UTC) with a rather unfavourable weather forecast of rain and big clouds. However our batteries are nicely recharged and the easterly wind is gently pushing us along.

Yesterday, the rain was stuck to us like glue! If you want freshwater, we’ve got it! The boat is clean as a whistle and we’re heading back offshore towards our last destination before the next crew rotation.

The Fiji Islands, another dream destination.

Christmas is approaching of course and spending the festive season in the tropics is quite special! We’re accustomed to associating this period with the cold, coats and snow; this time there’s none of that, it’s all about dips in the sea and sunshine for those lucky enough to be spending their holidays in the region.

On-board with us we have Andrew Paris, a scientist from Fiji, who will be taking samples of the sea water and, using the Manta net, he’ll be collecting up particles in suspension in the zone we traverse.

We’re enjoying getting back into our life as sailors.”

Race for Water will visit Fiji from 22 December 2018 to 19 January 2019; thanks to our local partners for their help and support:
