Finally, it’s time. We’ve finished up all of our last-minute errands and tweaks to the boat. Like every major project, Race for Water is on a deadline, and we’re not going to miss it. What we’re doing is ambitious, and we could definitely have used a few extra days or weeks. But at the same time, we’re ready to get going. Fortunately for us and for everyone following us from the shoreline, the weather looks great; spring, but almost like summer.

As we headed out of port, we were surrounded by a fleet of other boats. On board Race for Water, we had some journalists doing last-minute interviews. Cameras were clicking like crazy, and we even had a few drones circling overhead! After about an hour, the journalists headed out, along with Marco, who will rejoin us for the next leg. The afternoon and evening flew by, as we stowed all of our gear and battened everything down for the trip. But it’s still going to take some work to get everything set so that it doesn’t shift around when the wind and waves kick up. It’s already 10:30 and I’m on watch from 6AM to 9AM with Anne, so I’d better get to bed after a long day.
